I finished reading this trilogy in a few days. I read about one book a day. Once I started reading I just couldn’t put them down because I was hooked from the start. I barely had a chance to leave it long enough to eat etc. The truth is that I was completely captivated from the first sentences.
The books in the trilogy are called Sweet Evil, Sweet Peril, and Sweet Reckoning. They are written in first person narrative and the main character is Anna, who is not your average 16 year old girl. She really has never felt like she belongs anywhere and everywhere she goes people think she’s a little weird and at least she’s not included in the popular crowd at school. She’s beautiful but not like a cheerleader because that’s not her personality. Anna was adopted as a baby and lives with her mother (adoptive mother)… who is probably the sweetest mother you can imagine. She loves Anna madly and would die for her without qualifications.
Anna has a best friend named Jay and they are very close. People have speculated about them, claiming they are more than friends, but Anna knows they don’t feel that way about each other. They are just very good friends. But people in general tend to doubt that when the people in question are a girl and a boy. Even more so when they are teenagers.
What’s different about Anna is that she can see things other people can’t, like auras and emotions. She even she can sense when someone is pregnant. She knows that it is better not to talk about this with anyone, but everything changed when she came with Jay to see a concert. The band’s drummer caught her attention, well, everyone’s attention actually; he was a hottie. His name is Kaidan Rowe and, although he looked absolutely fantastic, he was very cold towards her. However, he knew things about her that no one could know. Was he a stalker? Or was he the same as her, whatever he was? All he knew was that as rude as he was, he took her breath away. She had to know more.
I won’t say much more than that about the series because I think it’s more fun not knowing too much about a book before you read it. All I can say is that if you like butterfly-in-the-belly romance, fantasy/supernatural genres, and love being so engrossed in a book that you forget about everything else, then this is the book for you.
Overall I recommend Wendy Higgins. She is a brilliant author.
