Would you like to save money and have a healthier pet? let me tell you a
history. One day, my German shepherd asleep, as always, when suddenly,
she started convulsing so intensely that I thought she was dying. she went on for
A few minutes that seemed like an eternity. Afterwards, she couldn’t believe she was okay. That
turned out to be a fit, and that’s when I started to learn
about alternative medicine for pets.
The most interesting thing I discovered was that vaccines seem to be a
leading cause of seizures in dogs, and annual vaccinations are not necessary,
possibly causing more harm than good. After that incident, we stopped
vaccinating and seizures became less and less. I’m going to tell you how
it is best for you and your pet to avoid annual vaccinations.
Annual revaccination is simply not necessary.
Here is an excerpt from page 205 of Current Veterinary Therapy XI, a
reference considered as the main resource for the entire veterinary field.
“A practice that began many years ago and lacks scientific foundation
the validity or verification is annual revaccinations. ALMOST WITHOUT EXCEPTION
THERE IS NO IMMUNOLOGICAL REQUIREMENT FOR ANNUAL REVACCINATION.
Immunity to viruses persists for years or for the life of the animal.”
If you are concerned about not getting vaccinated annually, you can get proof of
immunity even years after injection, by a blood test called a titer. Many
vets, especially holistic vets, will provide these tests. See http://
http://www.AlternativesForAnimals.com for a directory of holistic vets.
Over-vaccination can even cause more harm than good. This is something
which almost all holistic vets agree, and some of the best vets in the country
many health problems are attributed to vaccines.
Dr. Richard Pitcairn, a highly respected holistic pioneer and veterinarian who
extensively researched immunology, he believes that the most important factor
contributing to epilepsy in dogs are annual vaccinations. (1) Many seizures
occur within a few weeks of dogs receiving their vaccinations.
According to this theory that overvaccination causes harm, vaccines work
with immunity, and excessive vaccination weakens the immune system. This in turn
causes autoimmune problems in cats and dogs such as skin problems, hair loss,
tumors and arthritis. A weakened immune system leaves your pet open to everything
types of possible health problems. (2)
Why do almost all conventional vets recommend annual vaccinations? Is
been the industry standard. According to veterinarian Dr. Carolyn Blakey, it is
represents up to 80% of a veterinarian’s business. Recommend less often
vaccination, veterinary companies would take a huge financial hit.
If you are concerned about avoiding vaccinations, are there alternatives? Over there
are a couple of options. Some holistic vets follow a modified program of
vaccines, administering them at less frequent intervals.
Another option is homeopathic. Homeopathic nosodes are a remedy
administered to pets that are believed to aid in disease prevention. we
they are made from the real virus, just like a vaccine, but they are made differently and
they are totally safe.
According to Donna Starita, DVM, a leading homeopathic veterinarian, many
Studies show that homeopathic nosodes are as effective or more than
Conventional vaccines in disease prevention. (3)
Some breeders, like author Celeste Yarnall, Ph.D., who are interested
in more natural methods, use exclusively nosodes instead of regular injections.
They wear out for its effectiveness and say that their animals are much healthier
than previous generations who received injections. (4)
Therefore, it is okay to question the need for annual vaccinations for pets, with your
questionable necessity and possible adverse health effects on your pet. This
is the beginning of this movement, and in the years to come, it is my opinion
that we will probably see more of a move away from such frequent vaccination.
Some veterinary schools are already changing their curriculum to promote
Changes in the frequency of vaccination. In the end, it will save us all money, and
We will have healthier pets.
So next time you get that little reminder card in the mail that your pet is
because of his shots, think twice! And switch your pet’s care to a vet who is more
Be careful with the use of vaccines.
