When people teach you their so-called “real” ways to make money online, what you get is often a lie. They don’t lie to you on purpose. I know, because I myself have been guilty of telling the same falsehood, without even knowing it.
However, once I washed the mud out of my eyes and saw clearly, I felt it was absolutely necessary to tell you this.
And when I said that they told you a lie, this is not the truth either. It may not be the best way to do things.
Everyone says: find yourself a narrow niche
When they teach you how to make money online, everyone says: Find yourself a narrow niche. Don’t choose “pets” but “cat clicker training” or something really limited.
Well, yes, this could work, if the sub-niche is big enough, but often, you’ll find yourself earning very little while trying a lot.
I can understand their arguments, and have been teaching them myself. Instead of choosing a big niche like “pets”, “dating” or even “internet marketing” where you will be a very small fish in a big dam, you should find a small hole and be the big tuna there. .
Yes, it’s easier to build a name and reputation in a narrow niche, but does that help you if there’s no money?
All my niches to make money have been wide
Sometimes it pays to take a step back and get a great overview. I did it a while ago. I looked at my income and thought: What do my money making sites have in common?
And I discovered something very surprising to me. They had one thing in common: they were very wide niches.
My best performing site is about internet or computer tips. It almost couldn’t get any wider than that. Another well done site is about writing. On how to become an author and earn money writing. It’s not exactly a narrow niche, either.
Why don’t the gurus tell you to go further?
Because the gurus know that you want money now! Not tomorrow, not in a week, and certainly not just after four years.
So they give you what you think you want: quick income.
Even so, this is not a stable and long-term income. So we have two real ways to make money online: choose a narrow or a broad niche. If you want to make a living online, choosing a large niche over a narrow one might be the way to go, even if it takes longer to break through.
