Gunman robs Maryland parishioners at evening service. BALTIMORE, January. 1 — An armed man broke into a religious service Sunday night and robbed several members of the congregation, authorities said. About 50 people were attending a service at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church in Bel Air when a man walked in brandishing a gun, the Harford County Sheriff’s Office said. No injuries were reported.
How many times have you heard this passage from Exodus 20:15? “You must not steal.” How many do you personally know who violate this law? Today we see many trying to get the Bible out of every government and courtroom wall. But do they not understand that many of the laws of the land are written according to the Laws of God, not only to Moses but also to the New Testament Church, under the Law of Grace and Mercy? The old saying, “you can block a thief”, has become null and void. If a man wishes to steal, there is no lock to keep him out.
The lock is not for the unjust but for the just. God established Government and Laws covering all aspects of his administration. Prisons today, as they were in the time of Abraham and Jesus, are full of thieves, some we call “white” and others we call “blue callers”, crimes. It is so easy for man to put a label on sin, calling it something else to make it sound better. But sin is sin and will be judged accordingly. Exodus 22:1 If anyone steals an ox or a sheep, and slaughters it, or sells it; he will pay five oxen for one ox, and four sheep for one sheep.
The payment of the robbery was greatly noted in the Scriptures and the Laws remained. There was no doubt what the punishment was. Lev 19:11 You shall not steal, nor deceive, nor lie to one another. Theft takes many forms, the one we most associate with material goods, cars, money, jewelry, etc. But theft also sneaks in, swindlers, liars, deceivers. Many times we are victims of theft by buying something that others say works and then once we take it home we realize that it is broken and does not work, this is also theft by deception. Home repair that is not done properly is also theft by deception.
The list goes on and on. Whether these acts are criminally prosecuted or not, God knows and deals with it on His own terms and in His own time. Romans 12:19 My beloved, do not avenge yourselves, but give way to wrath; because it is written: Vengeance is mine; I will pay, know the Lord. Sin is paid for by God. When a King’s Child is hurt by unbelievers, God Himself takes care of it. Mark 9:42, And whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in me to stumble, it would be better for him if a millstone were hung around his neck, and he were thrown into the sea. Pro 6:30 A thief is not despised, if he steals to satisfy his soul when he is hungry;
(Clark states: Men do not despise a thief if he steals – Every man takes pity on the guilty poor man who perished for want of food, and stole to satisfy his hunger; yet no law absolves him: he is bound to make restitution; in some cases double, in others quadruple and quintuple; and if he does not have enough goods to make restitution, he should sell them as guarantor; ) Whatever the situation, there is no justification for the thief. No law exempts you from his actions. There is no excuse for theft, if a man is a believer in Christ.
All of man’s needs will be met if He only believes. The Prophet put it this way; Ps 37:23-25; The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD, and he delights in his way. Though he fall, he shall not be wholly cast down: for the LORD holds him by his hand. I have been young, and now I am old; but I have not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his offspring begging for bread. “I have not seen the righteous forsaken.”
These words are true. I have met many Christians in need, but the idea of stealing to eat never crossed their minds, because when they needed, they received from God. Theft stems from greed and lust, greed is another sin that plays a major role in theft. When man goes beyond what God has provided and longs for more, then theft becomes a reality. In Matthew 6:25, Jesus said; Therefore I tell you: do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor for your body, what you have to wear. Is not life more than food, and the body than clothing? 1Ti 6:8 And having food and love let us be happy there. Thieves are never satisfied with food and clothing, they want what others have, they are not willing to work to be able to buy what they want.
They pray to the unsuspecting and destroy not only their own soul, but also the victim’s trust in humanity. Luke 3:14 And the soldiers also asked him, saying, And what shall we do? And he said to them: Do not do violence to anyone, nor accuse anyone falsely; and be content with your wages. Discontent is another form of stealing. Look around you in the workplace, do you know of people who are paid to work and who spend most of their day trying to avoid doing what they agreed to do? This is robbery in disappointment and discontent. When we agree to do a job for that amount of money, God forces us to honor that agreement, because we cannot hide from God. Let’s read; Matthew 20:11-15; And when they had received it, they murmured against the father of the family, saying: These last ones have worked a single hour, and you have made them equal to us, who have borne the burden and the heat of the day. But he answered one of them, and said: Friend, I do you no wrong: did you not agree with me for a penny?
Take what is yours, and go; I will give to this last, as to you. Is it not lawful for me to do what I want with what is mine? Is your eye bad, because I am good? Here are words of Wisdom; John 10:10 The thief (Satan) comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it abundantly. (The theft of the soul.)
Romans 2:21, You therefore who teach another, do you not teach yourself? you who preach that a man should not steal, do you steal? (Hypocrisy in service) Eph 4:28 Let him who stole steal no more, but work, doing what is good with his hands, so that he may have something to give to those in need. (We work to give to others, Saints or Sinners.)
Matthew 6:19-20. Do not lay up treasures on earth, where moths and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal; but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in or steal:
Phil 4:11 Not that he speaks of necessity; because I have learned, in whatever state I find myself, to be content with it. end part 3. ars
