When choosing my starter in my Pokemon games, I found that most of the time I would choose a fire starter. Examples: In Pokémon Red, Blue, FireRed and LeafGreen I would always choose Charmander. In Pokemon Gold, Silver, Crystal, Heart Gold, and Soul Silver I would always pick Cyndaquil. In Pokémon Ruby, Safire and Emerald I would always choose Torchic.
In Pokémon Diamond, Pearl and Platinum I would always choose Chimchar. However, as the Pokemon Black and White games come out, for once I found myself not choosing Fire Starter. This time I’m going with the Grass Starter Tsutarja. I found this to be unusual as I have chosen Fire Starter in the past. The reason for this is that I like Tsutarja more than Pokabu. Although Pokabu is cute, I don’t like him as much as Tsutarja does.
The reason I chose Charmander was because he was cute and cool. The reason I chose Cyndaquil was because he was cute and I loved the second stage of his evolution. The reason I chose Torchic was because he was cute again and the final evolution of him was amazing. The reason I chose Chimchar was because he looked great. I find that, like the fire types, I will choose Tsutarja because she is cute and cool. Now when using them in-game, the Fire Starters worked differently. Charmander was difficult because the first gym is a rock gym and the second is a water gym which is not ideal for a fire type. With Cyndaquil it’s quite easy as the first gym is a flying type gym and the second is a bug type gym. The first one is not difficult and the second one is very easy. With Torchic it’s hard and correct.
The first gym is tough because once again it’s a rock gym. The second isn’t too bad since it’s a fighting gym and Torchic can learn a flying-type move. Chimchar is both hard and easy. The first gym is once again a rock gym. The second is a grass gym that is very easy for Chimchar. However, with Black and White it will be different because the gyms have different degrees of difficulty. So Tsutarja can be fine or tough depending on the gym. In conclusion, although I always chose a fire type, I feel that a grass or water type can also be good.
