Living Beyond Belief: How to Ditch the Life Your Mind Created and Start Living the Life Your Soul Intended is a self-help motivational nonfiction novel, which some may find to fit the New Age genre very well. This book reaches 265 pages, with 11 chapters dealing with innocence, death, purpose, clearing the conscience, seeing things realistically instead of emotionally, acting instead of reacting, and much more. Bridgeway Books, a well-known publisher in the industry, just published Living Beyond Belief in early 2008.
Author Jaia Lee shares her personal experiences discovering her unhappiness and the steps she took to turn the tide from the dark and bumpy road she was traveling to a calm, scenic and comfortable one. By sharing this story so honestly, Ella Jaia will surely inspire her readers to create positive responses in her thought process. She loved her humorous analogy of how each individual forms her own box; in fact, readers will find that Jaia’s light wit is scattered throughout the book, helping us see the absurdity of our actions. Occasionally, an interesting scientific fact is used to highlight the author’s point. I found it particularly interesting that there is no “typical” human brain, because each brain is individual.
Jaia has a master’s degree in spiritual psychology and has a career as a practicing life coach in Texas, USA, as well as a certified nutrition educator, chef, and co-founder of the Healthy and Whole Living Foods Community. She is also a singer and has released an album titled Pandora’s Box. Right now she is involved in several books and producing a meditation CD.
Unfortunately, I was unable to find information on alternative eco-friendly printing options, such as recycled content, and was equally unfortunate to discover that this book was printed and bound in China, which means a large ecological footprint from transportation alone. Still, I couldn’t find it in my heart to place this book more than one star for this aspect. Overall, I enjoyed the problems and solutions the author shares throughout the book.
Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars.
