If you’re interested in starting a blog but don’t know what you want to write, here are five tips for finding blog topics to get you started.
1. Find 5-6 people whose work you admire and who share a similar target market. See what they’re writing about. Is there a common theme in your writing? Are the themes similar? If people are writing about the same topics, it is likely because there is new information to share or readers are demanding the information. You could even combine all of your writing into one or two new ideas of your own.
Are there any positions that you disagree with? Controversy can be polarizing and many people avoid it because they fear it will drive people away. But in reality, people are often drawn to controversy because it represents two points of view.
2. Google the topics you found in Step # 1 above. Does Google suggest topics or themes that might be appropriate for a blog post? These often come from topics that are entered into Google Search, so they represent topics that people want to know about. Also visit forums on your topics to see what kinds of questions people are asking. Often times, they will ask for solutions to the problems they have and the information they need, so give them to them in your blog posts.
3. Observe current affairs or current trends. What’s on magazine covers and newspaper headlines? What do TV shows and broadcast shows cover? What is a trend in social networks? These can also give you ideas for blogging topics.
4. Read articles from EzineArticles.com on the subject of your blog post. Look for the latest information on your topic to see what is currently being published. You can also use older articles to supplement your background information.
You can also use YouTube videos as research for your blog posts. Look for information that is consistent with the topic of your blog and that provides value to your readers.
And don’t forget about podcasts. Look for very popular podcasts on your chosen topic.
5. Look for information from other sources, such as newsletters or magazines. Of course, you should never steal information directly, but most research relies on taking information from other sources and putting it together in new ways. Develop your own voice and perspective, and you will attract followers who will be drawn to your message.
These five steps will help you get started finding good blogging topics. You should try a variety of blogging topics to see which ones are most useful and interesting to your readers. You can do this by requesting feedback on social media from your target audience.
