Fabric shades are a treatment where you don’t have to sacrifice beauty for functionality. They can be simple, elegant and contemporary or they can also be voluminous and luxuriously elegant. Below I have listed 5 factors to consider when selecting shades of fabric for your home:
1. The stack – do you have enough space above the window for the blind to stack when open? With fabric blinds, they create their own valance, making them perfect for mounting over the window. And unlike other treatments, fabric blinds look great mounted over the window. This also helps your window look bigger!
2. The Texture: One of my favorite places for a shade of fabric is… a kitchen or a bathroom. Kitchens and bathrooms often have a lot of hard surfaces in the room: tile floors, wood cabinets, granite countertops, mirrors, sinks, etc. Adding softness with a shade of fabric is the perfect solution for a “hard” room and is desperately needed.
3. Size of the room: If your room is smaller, choose a simple style with clean lines. A large, billowy screen with lots of luxurious fabrics could dominate a small room with all the wrong proportions.
4. Enhance your style: A fabric shade looks fabulous on its own or layered together with curtains for a more sophisticated look.
5. More bang for your buck: A fabric shade will last for many, many years with minimal care. There are two mechanisms that operate the curtain. A rope and a pulley. No custom mounting brackets, batteries, or complicated mechanisms that can break or wear out.
No matter what style you choose, fabric shades look great in any room, no matter the fabric or budget!
