First, you will have to decide what type of RC truck. RC trucks come in electric, nitro, and gas versions, and the fun you’ll have is priceless. RC trucks are awesome and most come with big fat wheels and 4WD, shock absorbers and more.
Electric RC trucks are RTR (ready to run) and you just need to charge the batteries and go! Can be used indoors or outdoors, the trucks are great for off-roading and can go over rocks, mud, woods, parks, and grass. They are also good on the road and can be competed with other RC trucks, with the electric models there is little noise and maintenance is much less than with Nitro.
Speeds of 30 mph and more if modified and doing stunts and jumps with these are great fun, but make sure you don’t drive your truck through water as it will fry your electrical or servo system!
I recommend covering the electrical wires and any exposed wires with electrical tape and a good tip is to use a regular balloon and cover the electrical receiver so it’s waterproof. Also check that the screws are tight and you can also use clear silicone to seal the lid of the box and any gaps. Cleaning the RC truck after every race is essential and a good tool to get to all the little places is to use a toothbrush, just make sure you remove all the dirt, mud, etc. and do a visual check of everything. Don’t forget to check that the controller batteries are new or fully charged or you may lose control of the truck or worse, go into a lake or crash into something and cause damage.
So I strongly suggest that beginners use “rechargeable batteries” as it will cost you a lot of money as they tend not to last long and as you know good batteries are not cheap. Plus, you’ll always know the batteries are full and fresh.
There are two main types of electric motors: brushed and brushless.
With a brushed motor there are small contact brushes inside the motor that make it spin and are common on toy grade trucks, some may have replaceable brushes that can be fitted and need to be cleaned as dust and debris collects in the inside.
Brushless motors are becoming more popular now as there are more benefits as there are no brushes so there is much less friction and therefore they produce less heat so you can run your vehicle for longer and, what is more important, it will be faster! Yes, since a brushless motor can take more voltage than a brushed one, the speed and performance are much better and the motor is less likely to burn out from overheating. Brush less is well worth the extra money and your long-term savings. Electric RC trucks are best for beginners and kids.
RC NITRO TRUCKS
Nitro trucks run on a special nitro fuel that can be easily purchased at a hobby store or online and is well worth the extra effort. With nitro models, there is much more maintenance, such as checking the tires, air filter, and emptying any nitro fuel left in the tank, as not doing this or spending the extra time needed could destroy the engine.
Like a normal NEW because you have to run the engine slowly and this is the same for any new nitro radio controlled vehicle so make sure you read the instructions well or do your research on nitro models as this can get expensive if you just go and it explodes. turn around and blow up the engine. But let me tell you that Nitro RC trucks are fast, loud and can keep refueling and running.
Nitro RC trucks can reach speeds of 70mph and some come with full specs like 2 speed gearbox, 4WD heavy duty alloy shock absorbers and cool bodies. Due to the fuel and speed of the nitro trucks, they are not for children under the age of 14. This is a great hobby and if speed is your thing then nitro is the way to go.
Gasoline RC Trucks
RC gas trucks run on unleaded gasoline and 2 stroke oil which can be bought at any gas station and normally when you buy a RC gas truck you get a mixer bottle to mix up the right mix but these are great trucks like the RC Hummer. truck for example: Sizes are normally larger than 1/5 scale and these trucks can do jumps, spins and speeds of 80 KM/H. The smell of burning gasoline is the closest thing to the real thing, but the gasoline models are the most expensive of the 3 to buy, but they are second to none for racing and give the feel of the real thing.
