For your restaurant rankings in Barbados, Zagat compiled input of 1,520 diners to judge. The following are the best in Barbados, based on Zagat. Are they really the best? This is what a serious foodie … with a restaurant token to prove it … who has eaten these places many times has to say.
Champers: Visitors and locals alike love Champers Wine Bar & Restaurant, which is why it was called ZagatBarbados’ “most popular” culinary experience. It is also. Do you know how the most popular kid in school is remembered forever? Well, I have friends who haven’t been to Barbados in six years who get off their plane from England and say, “We’re going to Champers tonight.” Consistently fabulous seafood and service at the water’s edge on the island’s south shore. Christ Church, Rockley
The tides: Fabulous seafood in pretty blue decor that perfectly complements the seaside location. Excellent service, “consistently excellent,” says ZagatIt is from this restaurant owned by a west coast chef. I have never been disappointed here; The Tides is always fabulous. It’s also pretty formal (for God’s sake, no flip flops). Be sure to also visit the wonderful art gallery. St. James, Holetown
The cliff: Popular for its romantic setting next to a torch-lit cliff and its “truly special” food, The Cliff won ZagatIt’s the highest score for decor and noted that their service matches their inventive eclectic fare. Yes, The Cliff is exceptional. That Zagat What he doesn’t mention is that this is one of the most expensive restaurants on the island; if you’re price sensitive, go to Champers instead. St. James, Derricks
Zen: Go early and take a sunset stroll on the award-winning pink sand beach at Crane Resort, where Zen is located in southeastern Barbados. Unfortunately, that is all you will see of the ocean because it is not visible from most tables within the restaurant. This is what prevents me from dining more often at this excellent restaurant. Zen received ZagatThe highest score in Barbados for food thanks to “just amazing” Japanese-Thai cuisine, including amazing sushi. St. Philip, Crane Beach Hotel
Pisces: Over the sea and revered for its “wonderful menu with the best local fish” and offered at “what can be considered reasonable prices for Barbados”. I agree: Pisces is fantastic for other reasons as well: it has an attractive naturalness; it is within walking distance of many vacation rentals on the south coast; And because you’re in the heart of bustling St. Lawrence Gap, you can also choose from other wonderful restaurants in the immediate area. My only complaint is that I have experienced very slow service at Pisces. But then we are in the Caribbean … Christ Church
